Jackson Ireton was actually born in Indian Territory since Oklahoma didn't come into being until 1907. His family lived in what was known then as the "Ireton Community", named after his father, John Ireton.
After his parents died, Jackson and brother Thomas were found on two census records in 1910.... at the St. Joseph Catholic Boarding School in Chickasha, OK and in the home of Billy Trash.
By 1920 though, Jackson and Thomas were both attending the Murray State School of Agriculture in Johnston Co., OK. A few short years later, he has died.
Alex Tribune, October 10, 1924: "Farmer Finds Body of Man Near Gumbo Pitts Near Alex. Body was identified as Jack Ireton missing for weeks. Bullet hole in skull and arms missing indicate foul play." The news article about the finding of Jack Ireton was too long and graphic to be added to his memorial as an obit. It does state though that circumstances found lead them to believe he was murdered.
Alex Tribune, October 10, 1924: "Alex Men Identify Dead Man as Jack Ireton - R. B. Holder, John Shelby and Lake Hampton went to Chickasha, Tuesday, to see if the dead man found near the Gumbo Pits Monday by C. M. Holder, was Jack Ireton. Upon viewing the personal belongs they were identified by members of the party and others as being the property of Jack Ireton, who had been missing for several weeks. Henry Ireton, a brother, also identified a part of the clothing and was confident the body was that of his brother Jack Ireton. The body was turned over to the relatives who accompanied it to Alex Wednesday, and burial was made in the family burial ground at Ireton. Just what steps will be taken in the matter is not yet determined, but it is understood the party or parties implicated in the murder will be hunted down."
