Basil “Bake” F. Gahimer, 78, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at his home in Blue Ridge. He had been ill for a few months. Born on Sept. 26, 1911, in Rush County, he was the son of George and Addie Bell (Rader) Gahimer. On Feb. 17, 1940, he married Opal I. Sconn, who survives. A farmer, he retired from Gahimer Drilling Co. in 1980. He was a member of the Varmits Club, Indiana University Varsity Club and the Shelbyville Eagles Lodge. He attended and was active in Blue Ridge Christian Union Church. Other survivors are two daughters, Joan Gahimer, Greenwood, and Mrs. Allen (Jan) Heiden, Blue Ridge; two grandsons; two brothers, Chester Gahimer, Gwynnville, and Ike Gahimer, Blue Ridge; and four sisters, Dorothy Gahimer, Blue Ridge, Mrs. Thelma Fox, Blue Ridge, Mrs. Charles (Isabel) Smith, Morristown, and Mrs. Gladys Cass, Fountaintown. Three brothers and three sisters, precede him in death. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Christian Union Church with the Rev. James Farnsley officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today at the Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home, 232 W. Broadway. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.
