Howard E. “Dood” Gahimer, 70, Blue Ridge, R.R. 6, Shelbyville, died about 6:30 a.m. today at the Colonial Crest Convalescent Center, Indianapolis. He had been in failing health several years and critically ill since May 11. A lifelong resident of Shelby and Rush Counties. Mr. Gahimer was a retired painter and well driller. He was a veteran of World War II and a charter member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Club. He also was a member of the former Homer Christian Church and Victory Post 70, American Legion. Mr. Gahimer was born in Rush County on Dec. 15, 1907, a son of George and Addie Bell (Rader) Gahimer. Surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Basil Gahimer, Leonidas Gahimer, Miss Dorothy Gahimer and Mrs. Thelma Fox, all of Blue Ridge, Mrs. Isabel Smith, R.R. 1, Waldron, Mrs. Gladys Cass, Fountaintown, and Chester Gahimer, Gwynneville. Five brothers and sister preceded in death. Services will be announced by Carmony Funeral Home. It is requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to a favorite charity.

Services for Howard E. (Dood) Gahimer, 70, Blue Ridge, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carmony Funeral Home. He died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Colonial Crest Convalescent Center, Indianapolis. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. today. The Rev. W.B. Jenkins will officiate at the services. The local American Legion Post will conduct graveside rites at the Blue Ridge Cemetery.
