John W. Sandlin, 65, prominent hardware merchant and farmer of Decatur, was fatally stricken in his sleep last night with a heart attack.
The attack apparently came without warning as Mr. Sandlin had been in good health all his life and went to his business as usual yesterday. He was found dead this morning by members of the family when they called him to breakfast.
Born in Morgan county, a few miles east of Priceville community, Mr. Sandlin has lived in Decatur around forty years. He worked for the L&N shops before going in business thirty years ago with W.E. Sivley, in the business firm of Sivley and Sandlin.
Some years ago, Mr. Sandlin and his son, J.E. Sandlin, took over the business which now goes under the firm name of John W. Sandlin & Son.
He had been an active member of the Central Baptist Church of Decatur for the past thirty years, and his friends are scattered throughout Morgan county.
The deceased is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. George Collier, Mrs. Edwin Bean, Miss Ruby Sandlin; four sons, John E. Sandlin, Charles Sandlin, Edward Sandlin and Marshall Sandlin.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Brown.
