Jonathan Street Sandlin was born Monday, November 19, 1888 in Morgan County, Alabama, to Samuel Winford Sandlin and Margaret M. Crow Sandlin.

He married Ethel Green Hardwick Roberts, a daughter of George Clarence Hardwick and Fannie Anne Ratliff Hardwick on Sunday, November 4, 1917 in Danville, Morgan County, Alabama.

She was the widow of Prentiss William Roberts.

A beloved and respected Danville citizen passed away early Wednesday morning, Mr. Street Sandlin. The entire community was saddened to hear the news. He had been under the care of the doctor for over two month and Monday suffered a heart attack. Since then he had been confined to his bed. Funeral services will be announced later.

Funeral Friday For Former Sheriff

Street Sandlin, former Sheriff of Morgan County, passed away at his home in Danville Wednesday night. He was 65.

Sandlin was well-known throughout the county, having served as sheriff from 1934 to 1938. Funeral arrangements have been made for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. For one hour preceding the funeral the body will lie in state at Danville Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Slack and Rev. John Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery, Peck directing.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ethel Sandlin, Danville; two sons, David Sandlin, Hartselle and Virgil Sandlin, Birmingham; and one stepson, Malcolm Roberts, Chicago, Ill; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Hilda Cottrell, Adger, Ala.; five sisters, Mrs. Julia Widner, Decatur, Mrs. Clyde Wilkerson, Mrs. Floyd Dillehay, Mrs. Marvin Sams and Mrs. Ike Clendenon; three brothers, P.W. Sandlin and Herman Sandlin of Decatur and Neill Sandlin, Denver, Colo.

Sandlin was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Danville Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be James Teague, Ed Aldridge, William Lindsey, F.E. Martin, Edgar Blalock and W.E. Kilgore.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Sims, H.L. Heflin, Jim Fielding, J.M. Lindsey, John Cooper, Oswald Sims and J.W. Lindsey.
