Eddie died Wednesday, March
16, 2005, at home of congestive heart failure.
Eddie, 89, was born Oct. 6, 1915, in Decatur, Ala., to John Winford Sandlin
and Bernice Smith Sandlin, the sixth of seven children, all now deceased.
A member of Central Baptist Church since 1928, but an attendee since a small
child, he was one of the oldest members in age and length of attendance
there.
A veteran of World War II, he served 49 months in the U.S. Army Air Forces,
almost all of his service overseas in the European and Pacific Theaters,
where he was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, Asiatic Pacific Service
Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African Middle Eastern
Service Medal, with one Silver Star and one Bronze Star for his service in
I.F.F.
In 1955, he went into business for himself, Eddie Sandlin Hardware and
Gifts, on what is now Point Mallard Parkway, where he and his wife were in
business until their retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Davidson Sandlin.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
