He married Laura Bell Daugherty, the daughter of William James Daugherty & Eliza Jane Benson Daugherty, on September 7, 1899 in Lincoln County. They were the parents of William Washington Snowden.
His sons, Charles and Stanley, moved their families to Louisville. While in that city, Mr. Snowden passed away from the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Suddenly, December 19, 1923, at 2 a.m., George Snowden, in his sixty-second year, husband of Mrs. Laura Snowden. Remains at the chapel of John H. Miller, 1617 West Jefferson Street. Funeral will be held from the residence of his son, C.I. Snowden, 2522 Rowan Street. Time will be published later.

George Snowden, 62, Crab Orchard, Ky., who was in the pyschopathic ward of the Jefferson County Jail awaiting trial on a lunacy charge, died at 2 o'clock yesterday morning in his cell. He is survived by his sons, C.I. and Stanley Snowden and a daughter, Mrs. T.M. Prather [sic Mrs. T.L. Praither].

•Bio for his son, Pvt. Sylvester Snowden:
Sylvester was the son of George Washington Snowden & Ina Prather Snowden. He was a farmer, prior to being inducted, as a Pvt., into the U.S. Army. He died at Camp Zachary Taylor, from the effects of lobar pneumonia, during the 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic. His remains were sent to his family, in Bybee, and laid to rest on October 17, 1918.
