Charles was the son of Charles Christopher Snowden & Minerva Frances Portwood Snowden. He married Polly Ann Hines, the daughter of Samuel & Louisa Abney Hines, on February 26, 1898 in Irvine, Kentucky. They were the parents of Clayton Atlee & James Ackless (twins), Sue Della, Charles H., Margaret D., William Joseph, Shelby, Floyd Embry, Lou Alma, John R., Robert Alexander, and Fannie E. Snowden.

The couple moved their family from Kentucky to Ohio, after 1920, and settled in Preble County. Mr. Snowden earned his living by farming his own land. Upon his retirement, he and Mrs. Snowden moved to Warren County, Ohio. He was a resident of that county, when he passed away at McCullough-Hyde Hospital, in Oxford.
