Laura was the daughter of Charles Christopher Snowden & Minerva Frances Portwood Snowden and was born and raised in Madison County. She married Floyd Emery Spurlin, the son of Ira S. & Amanda Holloway Spurlin, on November 13, 1894. The couple were the parents of Ira Vernice, Charles Christopher, Maude Ella, Laura B. and Ruth Ellen Spurlin.

Their family moved to Missouri, but returned to Madison County, Kentucky after the death of their daughter, Laura, and prior to the birth of their daughter, Ruth.

They relocated to the city of Hamilton, Ohio, in the early months of 1920, along with Laura's siblings, Charles Snowden and Ella Snowden Garrison. In their latter years, Floyd and Laura moved to Oxford and College Corner. Their adult children were all married, but lived within "traveling distance" and were frequent visitors to their home. All who speak of Mrs. Spurlin say that she was a true lady, gracious and kind to all and that her family was always foremost in her thoughts and deeds.
