THOMAS ERWIN SMITH,68, 2428 Boone street,, a retired farmer, died Saturday, June 17, at the wheel of his car while driving in downtown Boone. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

He was born July 9, 1903 the son of J. Elmer and Mae (Breheny) Smith. He had farmed most of his life in the Ridgeport area and had been employed in recent years by the Modern Sign Company in Boone. He was married to Emma Grett May 19, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons: Tommy (Viola) Smith, Ankeny,and Ellsworth (Dorthea)Smith, Boone; four daughters, Mrs. (Donald) Elaine Smelser, Plainsview, Minn.; Mrs.(John)Bethene Reed, Morrison, Iowa; Mrs.(Russell) Grimm, Sylmar, Calif.; and Mrs.(Elmer) Davenport,, Boone: four brothers,
Virgil (Bud) Smith, Boone; Joe Smith, Ipswich, S.D.; Elmer Smith, Goodell, Iowa, and Edward Smith, Gridley, Calif.; four sisters, Eva Smith, Boone, Mrs. Catherine Miller, Des Moines, Mrs. Ruth Coss and Mrs. Lena Stout, both of Davenport; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was held Wednesday, June 21, at 2 p.m., with the Schroeber Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Aitken officiating. Burial was in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery.
