Maples Pleasant Long was the son
of Maples Long and Mahala 'Atchley.'
He was born in Sevier County, Tn.,
on Oct. 13, 1854.

Maples P. was the grandson of Rev.
George W. Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth
Maples Long. Also Benjamin Atchley and
Martha Chambers Atchley, all from Tennessee.

Maples Pleasant was married on November
22, 1874 in Charleston, Arkansas to
Margaret Nancy Bohannon. They were the
parents of 10 children:
Stella Louella
William Edgar
John Walter
Minnie May
Mahala Jane
George Weber
Charles Richard
Lloyd Lemuel
Maples Helen
Dewey Melton

Margaret 'Maggie' Bohannon Long was
the daughter of Henry Bohannon and
Amanda 'Garrett'Bohannon. She was the
sister of Sarah Elizabeth Bohannon Long,
the wife of Maples' P. brother,
Napoleon Bradford Long.

The couple celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary in 1934 in Rogers, Arkansas.
I have an original copy of the newspaper
article about their 60th celebration.

Maples Pleasant was engaged in the
mercantile business. He had been in
business in Arkansas, then at one time
in Indian Territory. However during
1904, he exchanged his business in Afton
for a fruit farm located near Lowell, Ark.
Maples P. once again put in a mercantile
store in Lowell and later he owned several
stores in Arkansas.

From an ORIGINAL COPY OF OBIT:
MAPE P. LONG
ACCIDENT VICTIM
BURIED AT ROGERS
------
Mape was accindental shot by his
own gun in his store.
Indications were Long might have
tripped over a sugar sack as he was
turning out the last light in the store,
knocking the pistol from the top of his
books which he habitually carried home at
night and causing it to discharge as it
struck the floor.
It has been his custom to carry the
pistol each evening as he trasferred his
day's receipts from the store to his home.
The time of the accident was about 8:30
in the evening. The members of the family
who were in the residence adjoining the store
building heard the shot and found Long
unconscious on the floor. He was taken to
the Fayetteville hostpital where he died of
the accidental gunshot wound.
His wife and nine children, one of whom
Mrs. A.C. White, lives in Rogers, survive.
E. E. Long of Prauge went to Rogers,
Saturday and attended the funeral of his
last living uncle, Mr. M. P. Long who was
the last member of a family of 15.
The funeral was held in the First Baptist
Church of Rogers and burial was made in the
cemetery there, by his son, Dr. Charles Long,
who fell in the Argonne in France. More than
one hundred relavtives from various towns
assembled in Rogers for the funeral. Kinsmen
were present from Springfield and
Monett, Mo., from Miami, Vinita, Afton,
Tulsa, Prague, and Walters, Ok., from
Harrison, Fayeteville, Rogers,
Lowell, Ft. Smith and Eureka, Arkansas.

Maples Pleasant Long was a very respected
busnessman, a gentleman and always caring
for his family. He will be missed by his
friends and family.
Maples P. was a member of the First Baptist
Church.

Thank you Lester for placing the picture
for me.

NOTE: I now have a great deal
of original pictures, newspaper
articles and much more on Maples P.
and family. I received totes of things
on the Long, Atchley, Maples, Moore
and others that I'm carefully going
through. There are many original papers
about all of our family, including
the Atchley family, Claiborn and Rhoda
and their family and a great deal on
the Moore family. Very exciting, I'm
hoping to find a lot of new info on
all of our family members.
These are family treasures, many
documents, pictures, letters, and
more, including a picture of Mape
in his store.
