Sheboygan Counties grim toll of highway deaths tose to 20 over the weekend. Two men were killed and an expectant mother was injured early Sunday in a two car head-on collison on highway 23, three miles west of Sheboygan Falls. The two victims were James E Schuette 23, of Waldo and George Abler 49 of 212 Orchard Road, Kohler.
Abler was returning from a picnic near Plymouth at the time of the accident. He was the only occupant of his car.
George Abler, a mason at the Kohler Co., for the past 17 years, was born August 22, 1905 at Mount Calvary, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthias Abler. He attended grade school at Mt. Calvary, attended business college at Fond d Lac, and then started work as a mason. He was married to Miss Dorothy Bohnsack, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Peter Bohnsack on November 21, 1929.
In 1938 he began his employment at the Kohler Co. where he was employed at the time of his death. Mr. Abler was active in the Kohler Co. Choir, the Catholic Male Choir and St. Marys parish Choir at Sheboygan Falls. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Patricia) Reinemann, Kohler, and Miss Rose Marie, at home; one grandson; eight brothers, Philip of St. Cloud, the Rev. Father Cyprian of Detroit, Mich., Nicholas of Mt. Calvary, Benedict of Wisconsin Rapids, Henry, Herman and Leo, of Milwaukee, and Anthony of Rudolph, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Fox and Mrs. Germaine Walber, of Fond du Lac.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapels and at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelis Catholic Church in Kohler. The Rev. Cyprian Abler will be the celebrant of the requiem high mass. Burial will be made in the family lot at Kohler Cemetery.
