Nicholas Abler, 72, a retired Mount Calvary postmaster died at 12:20 a.m. today at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac. He had been a patient at the hospital one day following a heart attack.
He was born March 28, 1892, at Mount Calvary, the son of Mr. and Mrs Mathias Abler, and was married to Mary Helen Salchert April 20, 1920.
Mr. Abler operated meat markets until 1932 when he was appointed postmaster of Mount Calvary. He retired in 1962.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Vernon and Alois, both of Mount Calvary; two daughters, Mrs. William Lucas, Port Washington, and Mrs. Howard Smith LaHadra, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Germaine Walber and Mrs. Anthony Fox, both of Fond du Lac; five brothers, Father Cyprian, a Capuchin priest, Crown Point, Ind., Leo and Herman, both of Milwaukee, Ben, Wisconsin Rapids, and Anthony, Rudolph, Wis., and 14 gandchildren.
He was a member of St. Anthonys Society, Holy Cross parish at Mount Calvary, the American Legion, the Eagles Lodge at Fond du Lac, and the Postmasters Association. He had served overseas in World War 1.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross parish with burial in the parish cemetery.
