Funeral mass for Father Eisenbacher was celebrated by bishop Lawrence D. Soens of Sioux City at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Wesley. Burial was in the parish cemetery with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Wesley in charge of arrangements.
Linus Joseph Eisenbacher was born Sept. 21, 1906 at Wesley, a son of Ignatius and Thecia Simon Eisenbacher. He attended St. Joseph Parochial School at Wesley for eight years and graduated from high school at St. Bede College, Peru, IL.
Linus attended college at St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee, WI and graduated from Trinity College, Sioux City. He took his seminary training at Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO.
Linus was ordained May 1, 1938 in the Sioux City Cathedral of the Epiphany by Edmund Heelan. He gave his first mass on May 3, 1944. Fr. Eisenbacher was also in charge of the Mission of Immaculate Conception at Lehigh.
Father Eisenbacher was named pastor of the Sacred Heart Church of Alford and its mission of St. Mary, Doon, in 1944 and served there until 1951. He next served as pastor of Armstrong, St. Mary Parish from 1951 to 1959 before assuming the pastorates of St. Mary Church at Pomeroy and St. Joseph Church, Palmer, IA until 1961.
From there, Fr. Eisenbacher was assigned to St. Martin Parish, Odebolt, until 1975 and in June of that year to August of 1985, he was pastor of Sacred Heart Church at Ledyard. Father Eisenbacher retired to the Marian Village at Fort Dodge in 1985. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee of Priesthood in 1988 at Wesley.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Mrs. Felice Hilbert, Wesley: Vincent Eisenbacher, Wesley; Thecla Strouth, Wilmont, MN; Lucile Nelson, Wesley; Ruth, Mrs. Gerald Strouth, Worthington, MN; Jane, Mrs. Ben Faurot, Studio City, CA; and Joe Eisenbacher of Wesley.
