Ruth M. Strouth, 90, of Worthington, died on Monday, September 6, 2010, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, MN, with Father Jim Callahan officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont, MN.
Ruth Mary was born on November 24, 1919, in Wesley, IA, to Ignatius and Theckla (Simon) Eisenbacher. She graduated high school in 1937, teacher's college in 1941, and taught for nine years in Wesley, Woden, and Titonka, IA. Ruth married Gerard (Shorty) Strouth on June 19, 1947. They farmed outside of Reading, MN, moving to Worthington in 1978, Homestead in 2000, Meadows in 2003, and South Shore Care Center in 2008.
Ruth organized ARC in 1958 in Worthington, Adrian, Rushmore, and Brewster. She petitioned for education for Developmental Disabled Children in their home. She was chairwoman for American Cancer Society, Daffodil Days, American Heart Asociation, hospital auxiliary, CCW of St. Mary's, CDA at OLGC and Elk's (bridge).
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gerry (Jayne) Strouth, Sandra (Greg) Ponto, Carol (Steve) Winter, Sharon (Ken) Roberts, and Dr. Theresa (Dave) Gaul; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband (1991), daughter, Mary Lou (1959), her parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
In lieu of flowers her family would like donations to the charities where Ruth touched so many lives: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Council of Catholic Women.
