Plainville -- Elmer J. "Cap" Bollig, 72, Plainville, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Plainville Rural Hospital. Mr. Bollig was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Hays and was a Plainville resident since 1953.

He was the owner of Caps Shoe Service in Plainville, retiring in 1985, and a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8871 and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus 1857, all of Plainville.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean of the home; a daughter, Sandy Elliott of Dodge City; two sons, Dr. David L. Bollig of WaKeeney and Jerry L. Bollig of Silver Lake; five sisters, Marcella McCollum of Fort Wayne, Ind., Frances Wooldridge of Hays, Helen Knowles and Margie Hazelton, both of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Clara Walters of Hays; three brothers, Marion of Hays, Frank of Manhattan and Cecil of Duncan, Okla.; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Rev. Joe Popelka officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. A Ladies Guild rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663. Vigil services followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School or for Masses. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and after 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
