Doris Irene Shively Harlan was born July 16, 1918 near Bayard. She died January 22, 2000 at LakeEast Hospital, Painesville. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, graduated from Minerva High School, and attended Mount Union and Ohio Northern University. She was a member of the Painesville, United Methodist Church and was active in many of the various women's activities. She was a member of Urania Chapter #284, having served as acting Worthy Matron in 1972 and Worthy Matron in 1973. She served as Deputy Grand Matron of District 1 in 1979. She worked at the May Co. in Mentor for 23 years, retiring in 1987, and also served as an election clerk for many years. Hobbies included playing bridge with the ladies of the Methodist Church, embroidering and flower gardening. Her family has traced its roots prior to the Revolutionary War. Her sister, Janet, serving as DAR Regent in New Mexico.
