Genny taught 5th grade for 35 years in the Madison Local School District. While teaching, she played piano accompaniment for music choral programs at Homer Nash Kimball. She was also a member of the Painesville United Methodist Church for 71 years where she sang in the choir.
Genny was a member of many organizations where she also held numerous leadership positions. These included: Delta Kappa Gamma, board member of the Lake County Educational Federal Credit Union, Trumpettes double pinochle club, Quail Hollow Country Club social committee and Board of Governors, and multiple book clubs.
A positive and kind person, Genny loved spending time with her husband, Tim; daughters, Katie and Becky; and grandson, Brantlee as well as her extended family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading, and completing crossword puzzles in ink.
Survivors are her loving husband, Timothy Phillips Sr.; children, Katie Sivula and Becky (Adam) Robertson; grandchild, Brantlee Robertson; sister, Kathryn Hessinger; niece and nephew Corey and Brian Hessinger; stepchildren, Jeffrey Phillips, Peter Phillips, Stacey (Steve) Macecevic, Timothy Phillips Jr.; step-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylee Phillips and Evan and Ayla Macecevic.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Doris Harlan; sister, Mary Nelson; and brother-in-law, Drew Hessinger.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 30th at 2:00pm at the Painesville United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at the church, prior to the service.
Arrangements were handled by Johnson Funeral Home, Painesville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Painesville United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
