Ralph Mills Harlan was born February 1, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio. He died November 22, 2004 at Alter Care of Mentor in Concord Township. He was a member of the Painesville Methodist Church, Temple Lodge 28 Free and Accepted Masons, Painesville Chapter 46 R.A.M., Painesville Council # R&SM where he served as recorder for 20 years, Eagle Commandry KT, Urania Chapter 284 Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron in 1973 with his wife, Doris. He was also a member of Lake Erie Consistory Valley of Cleveland, Painesville Elks Lodge 549, Painesville Toastmasters Club, Western Reserve Municipal Clerks of N.E. Ohio, and Township Trustees and Clerks Association Lake County.
His hobbies included traveling to Europe China, and Canada, driving his PT Cruiser, and being with his family. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the armor division. He graduated from Shaw High School in 1934, and from Western Reserve University, Cum Laude, in 1950. He stressed to his daughters the importance of education. Mr. Harlan retired from Uniroyal in Painesville. He was the former longtime clerk and zoning inspector for Painesville Township.
