John Scieszinski, 80, of Melrose died Sept. 1 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

He was born at Melrose on May 22, 1902, the son of Frank and Mary Fitzgerald Scieszinski. He had farmed in Monroe County and moved to Melrose when he retired. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose.

On Feb 16, 1926 he married Mary Agnes Craig. She died April 6, 1982.

Survivors include three sons, Ed of Melrose, Bernard of Melrose and Bob of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vince of Melrose, Sylvester of Davenport and Ed of Albia; and one sister, Mildred of Melrose.

He was also preceded in death by one son, John Joe; one grandchild, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church in Melrose with the Rev. George Hoenig officiating. Burial will bee in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be 8 p.m. Friday at Geyer Funeral Chapel.
