Edward P. Scieszinski, 66, of Melrose died Friday, March 26, 1999, at the McAllen Medical Center while wintering in McAllen, Texas.

He was born April 9, 1932, in Melrose, the son of John and Mary (Craig) Scieszinski. He married Dolores Hannam Nov. 8, 1952, in Melrose. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Scieszinski of Des Moines and Gregory Scieszinski of Clive; two daughters, Lisa Simonini of Des Moines and Monica Anderson of Clive; two brothers, Robert Scieszinski of Des Moines and Bernard Scieszinski of Melrose; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ann Scieszinski; and a brother, John Scieszinski.

He was a lifelong resident of the Melrose area, farming with his father until enlisting in the Air Force in 1952. He farmed south of Melrose from 1956 until his death. He was also a part-time rural letter carrier for 12 years and a full-time rural carrier 10 years, receiving an award for distinguished service. He retired in 1997. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose, a member of the Mount Calvary Board of Trustees, was a Monroe County township trustee for Jackson Township, a member of the Monroe County Board of Review, a former member of the Farmer’s Home Administration County Board.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose with the Revs. Scott Lemaster and Mark Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Melrose with military rites by the Melrose American Legion. Visitation will be all day Wednesday at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. At 4 p.m. the body will be moved to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose. A Christian Wake service will be at 7:45 p.m. at the church.
