Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret McCarthy, 89, of Tilden were held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk with Rev. Joseph Kaup officiating. Pallbearers were Gerald McCarthy, Fremont; Francis Funk,Dubuque, Ia.; Tom LaVelle, Worthington, Minn.; Joe O'Brien, Stanton; and Jerry Scheer and John McCarthy Jr. of Norfolk. All are grandsons. She was buried by her husband in St. Patrick's Cemetery southwest of Clearwater. Mrs. McCarthy was born in Covington, Ky. October 19, 1877 to Mr. and Mrs. John Heenan. Later she moved with her parents and family to O'Neill. On June 19, 1899, she was married to Justin McCarthy at O'Neill. After living in O'Neill a few years they moved to Clearwater and in 1907 to Tilden, where she lived until last November when her health failed and she moved to Norfolk to be near some of her children. She passed away Monday, June19 at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital. Mrs. McCarthy was the mother of ten children. Survivors included two sons, Justin Jr. of Fremont and John of Norfolk; seven daughters, Mrs Rudy Funk (Margaret) of Clearwater; Mrs Pete Velder (Elizabeth) of West Point, Mrs. Marc LaVelle(Sally) of Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. Alva O'Brien (Lucy) of Stanton, Mrs Wilbur James (Ann), Mrs. Lyle Scheer (Theresa)and Miss Catherine McCarthy all of Norfolk; Two sisters, Miss Helen Heenan and Mrs Elizabeth Bolton, both of Omaha, 28 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Justin July 20 1940, one son, Sandy, October 15, 1932, one daughter MaryEllen, August 1917, her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
