Funeral Held for John T. McCarthy
Services for John McCarthy,66, Gilbert, Ariz., were held on Friday, Sept. 1, 1989, at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden with Fr. Robert Schmitz officiating.
Eleanor Schapmann was organist and Loretta Nykodym was soloist.
Active pallbeareres were Chris Black, Jim Black, Bill Ross, Jerry Scheer, Cecil Rudnick and Jim Rudnick. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Brogan, Don Christiansen, Bill Dales, Bob Eaton, Karl Rudnick, Kenny French, Bud Ray, Wayne Stover and Bill Winther. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery at Tilden. Military honors by American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644, both of Norfolk.
John T. McCarthy, the son of Justin and Margaret(Heenan) McCarthy, was born at Tilden, Nebraska, on July 27, 1923. He graduated from the Tilden High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps during WWII. He married Lorrayne Dufphey, July 18, 1947.
John served as Madison County Sheriff for two terms from 1950 to 1958. He retired from the Nebraska Public Service Commission in 1985, and moved to Arizona.
He died at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Lincoln on August 28, 1989. He was 66 years of age and is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marleen Parr of Fremont, and Kathleen Hodge of Lincoln; two sons, John L. of Wisner, and Tim of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Theresa Scheer of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alexander(Sandy) and Justin; six sisters, Margaret Funk, Elizabeth Velder, Sarah LaVelle, Mary Ellen McCarthy, Lucy O'Brien and Ann James; a half sister, Kate McCarthy; and an infant granddaughter, Sarah Hodge.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
