Jesse was born to Obediah Paden and Esther Dunne, in Tyler Co. WV.

He married Jane Dunne on Feb. 28, 1820 in Gallia Co. OH. To this union nine children were born, Melvin Girard, Serepta E., Freeman Horace, Edwin Calhoun, Alfred Wesley, Albert Oscar, Melvina Jane, Samantha and Winton Jesse Paden.

In his father Obediah Peden's will of Oct. 16, 1822, he referred to Jesse as Iepe. Whether this is his middle name or a nickname I do not know. The Dutch pronounce Iepe as "e-pay. His father referred to his sister Lydia as Liddy in his will and he liked to use nick names.
