It is traditional information that at the time Obediah Paden (or Peden) erected his first log cabin here and that it was the only residence or home of a white man between the settlements of Wheeling, West Virginia and Marietta, Ohio.
Obediah died about 1822 and is buried in Stender Cemetery. It was said many years ago that the stones are impossible to read.

Somebody, or some organization, has, obviously, donated and placed a new marker on Obediah's grave. I just want to say that I appreciate it very much and know that others do as well.
