Rebecca was born to Obediah Paden and Esther Dunne in PA, later they moved to Tyler Co. WV. She grew up with her siblings, Samuel, William, Isaac, Lydia, Obediah H., James, Esther and Jesse Paden.
She married James Woods on Jan. 1, 1809 in Wheeling, Ohio Co. WV. To this union five children were born, Jesse b. 1827, Mary Ann b. 1811, Hester "Hetty", Alexander and Rebecca Woods, in Tyler Co. WV.
Later on the family traveled down the Ohio River on a flat boat, then purchased a team and wagon. They proceeded to Darke Co. OH, where James purchased acres of virgin land, north east of Palestine, OH.
