Hannah C. Thompson was born in Overton County, Tennessee, November 20, 1840, and died Wednesday, May 21, 1924, at 10:30 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Palmer, in Springfield, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 1 day.
She was united in marriage to Nicholas S. Hughes, November 5, 1857, and to this union eleven children were born. She was preceded in death by two children, William Hughes and Mrs. Mary Knight; and also her husband, who died October 13, 1919.
Deceased is survived by seven sons and two daughters, namely: John M., and Richard of Springfield; Ira and Lewis, of Centralia; Henry of Peoria; James and Oscar of this city; Mrs. Charles Palmer and Mrs. Charles Lambert of Springfield. she also leaves numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the M. E. Church, South, of this city for many years. She was a true Christian, and always interested in religious work, and everything that was for the right.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Chas. Lambert in Springfield Friday morning at 11 o'clock, after which the body was brought to Waverly and services held at the M. E. Church, South at 2 o'clock, after which the body was interred in East cemetery.
