Casander & Elizabeth were hit by lightning in their parents home on Sunday afternoon, August 03, 1862. They were sitting at the piano, singing. The sister's were killed instantly. Elizabeth was holding their baby sister, Nona Mahala. The baby sister, survive having been scarred on her back for life. Their mother, Mahala was also severely shocked, but survived. The family home was slightly damaged. Elizabeth was engaged to Lewis Major at the time.
