Naturopathic physician; spiritual leader and prophet of polygamist sect known as the Apostolic United Brethren headquartered in Bluffdale, Salt Lake County, Utah. Katherine Lucy Handy was Rulon's first wife, sealed in Salt Lake Temple, 9 Jun 1926. Rulon C. Allred was excommunicated from the L.D.S. church for practicing polygamy on 8 May 1940 and a temple unsealing took place later on 9 Feb 1942.

By order of Ervil LeBaron on May 10, 1977, at 4:45 p.m., Rena Chynoweth and another young woman, Ramona Marston, wearing cheap wigs and fake glasses, walked into Rulon Allred's naturopath clinic in Murray, Utah. It was near closing time and Rulon and his wife and assistant Melba were still assisting their patients. While she was still in the waiting area Rena spotted Dr. Allred coming out of a back room. As she approached him, the 70 year-old doctor, gave her a friendly nod of the head. Then without a word, Rena pulled a .25 caliber pistol from her jacket and fired, emptying all seven bullets. He tried to deflect them with his hands before falling. Witnesses heard Allred scream, "Oh, my God! My God!"

"He was exactly as he had been described to me," Rena would later write in her memoir. "Tall, slender, gray-haired - a nice, pleasant-looking man... He was no more than three to five feet from me. I knew the moment had come to do what I was sent there to do."

Because of the size of attendance Rulon Allred's funeral was held at Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah. Over 2,600 people from around the country traveled to the school for a final goodbye to their prophet and leader.
