M. Thatcher Allred, 82, Ogden, died Sept. 23, 1978, in an Ogden hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident. Born July 27, 1896, Afton, Wyo., to Byron Harvey and Charlotte Susanna Pead Allred, Jr. married Pearl Oberhansley, June 9, 1923, Bozeman, Mont. She died Dec. 27, 1970. Retired professor emeritus, Weber State College. High priest in the LDS Ogden 67th Ward where he had worked with the special interest group. Served with U.S. Army during WW I. Was reared and educated in Wyoming and Idaho and received a bachelor's degree from Utah State university, 1922. Received a master's degree from the University of Iowa and had studied for a doctoral degree at the University of Utah and Stanford. Served as superintendent of schools at Three Forks, Mont., and as principal of the Afton, Wyo., High School. Joined faculty at Weber State College in 1931 and served as chairman of the speech and drama department more than 30 years. Retired in 1965. President of Weber State Faculty Assn. Two terms, chairman of Fine Arts building and planning committee. Member of Utah and National Education Associations and Utah Western and National Speech Teachers Association. Organizer and past president of Ogden Community Theater and director of Student and Community Theater productions at Weber State many years. Directed "All Faces West: and was author of several published plays. Received distinguished service award from Utah Academy of Arts, Letters and Sciences in 1972. Survivors: 1 son and 2 daughter, Dr. Gordon T. Allred, Ogden; Joan Allred, Smithfield; Mrs. Bradley (Penny) Wright, San Anselmo, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Elwood Allred, Burley, Idaho; Harold Allred, Fruitland, Idaho; Mrs. Hyrum (Irene) Rowberry, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Rhea Kunz, Salt Lake City; half-brothers and half-sisters; Otho H. Allred, California; Owen A., Marvin L. and Clarence E. Allred, all Salt Lake City; Mrs. Rudolph (Mary Evelyn) Larsen, Olive Kunz, Mrs. Joseph R. (Beth) Jessop, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Howard G. (Modine) Clark, Idaho. Funeral services Tuesday Sept. 26, 1:30 p.m., Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836-36th St., Ogden, where friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m., and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Autorest Memorial Park.
