He was a 1933 graduate of the University of Illinois, with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He was a member of the Registered Illinois Society of Professional Engineers. Herman served his country during World War II, as a Major in the Army Signal Corps, stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, in Ottawa for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1975.
He was survived by his son, John Herman (Lise) Bieritz, of Downers Grove, IL, three grandchildren, Erick, Emily, and Ehren Bieritz, all at home in Downers Grove, two brothers, Erick Bieritz of Ottawa and Walter (Elorn) Bieritz, of Yorkville, as well as his sister-in-law, Ruth Bieritz of Joliet and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, in 1972, six sisters, Evelyn Hardecopf, Rhoda Bieritz, Anna Sullivan, Esther Bieritz, Irene Bieritz, and Ruth Bieritz, and three brothers, George, Gerhardt, and Reuben Bieritz.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 East Countryside Parkway, Yorkville, IL.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Leaf officiating. Pallbearers were Wesley Bieritz, Lyle Hardecopf, James Harbacek, Virgil Lippold, Raymond Merkel, and Ken Walker.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the American Leukemia Research foundation, or the Easter Seal Treatment Center on Adams Street in Ottawa, IL.
