Curtis Whitfield, 98, of Panama City, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, January 22, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 11, 1913 in Toombs County, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Marines. He moved to Panama City in 1942 and was employed at Wainwright Shipyard. He served as office manager for W.C. Cooper Plumbing Co. for 40 years, and also was the owner of Whit's Motorcycle Sales. Mr. Whitfield was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Winifred Cooper Whitfield; two sons, Preston Whitfield (Quin) of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Douglas Whitfield (Pam Martin), of Panama City; two daughters, Linda McNeil (Larry) of Panama City, Joan Celeste Evans (Bill), of Stockbridge, GA; five grandchildren, Heidi Fowler (Kenneth) of Panama City, Kelly Harris of Stockbridge, GA, April Rowinski (Paul) of Cary, NC, Daniel Salmons of Stockbridge, GA, Sierra Whitfield of Royal Palm Beach, FL; six great grandchildren, Holly Hill, Jesse and Chase Harris, John, Elisa and Adam Rowinski and by many others who called him "Grandpa" and "Uncle Whit."

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Baptist Church in memory of Curtis Whitfield.
