The Toombs County native returned to the area in 1977. He was retired from Civil Service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, was a veteran of World War II and was a member of New Corinth Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Andrew J. Whitfield, Thomson; one brother, Curtis Whitfield, Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, September 24, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. in Galbreath Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Corley officiating.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
