Dennis was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, World War II, serving as a Medic (entered Dec. 1942).
He married Nan Elizabeth Hastings (1922-1947) and had one son. Tragically, she died of consumption.
Dennis then married Mary Virginia Buhrman Oct. 21, 1948 in Roanoke , Va. They met at Appalachian Power Company where she was employed as the Secretary/Clerk in the Meter Department. They had 2 daughters.
Dennis worked for Appalachian Electric Power Company in Roanoke, VA for 43 years before retiring. While at AEPCO, he worked as a Lineman, Meter Reader, Supervisor of the Meter Division, and for a period served as President of the Union Workers Association. He attended Roanoke College where he majored in Accounting.
He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mountain Dale Lodge #49 Independent Order of Oddfellows. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 248, Dept. of Va.
Dennis Kirkwood Craft passed away at 82 years of age on December 20, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Charles H. Ward officiating.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Virginia Buhrman Craft; his son; two daughters; a son-in-law; a sister-in-law, Anita Craft of Roanoke; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Interment to follow at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, Va.
His passion was spending time with his family and friends.
