Her father was a policeman and died Nov. 5, 1930, leaving her mother widowed. The family then moved to Roanoke, VA to live with her aunt, Annie Louisa Alloway, who was a teacher and later principal of Highland Park School.
Nan attended Jefferson High School in Roanoke and was a member of the Drama Club. According to her girlfriend, she was a "really sweet girl who was very attractive and very mature for her age. She was interested in becoming an actress." She graduated with a Commercial Degree from Jefferson High School in 1941.
Following her graduation, she worked in the office at Heironimus Dept. Store in downtown Roanoke.
Her best friend in high school had an uncle, Dennis Craft, whom she was introduced to.
Nan married Dennis Kirkwood "Kirk" Craft on Dec. 31, 1941 at the First Christian Church of Roanoke, VA with the Rev. Percy Thomas officiating. They had one son.
Kirk Craft entered the U. S. Army in December 1942, and by 1945 was a Corporal in Section F, ATC.
Sadly, Nan died at home in Roanoke, VA on April 28, 1947 at the age of 24 from tuberculosis.
