She married John Wesley Stephens, Jr. in Staunton, Va. where they resided. Her husband John worked at the Virginia State Employment Service. He was later transferred to Richmond, Va., where the family made their permanent home. They had one daughter.
Her husband, John Stephens, Jr., passed away suddenly in 1955 at the age of 50.
Goldie Stephens was a very compassionate, charitable, and loving person who enjoyed family, playing bridge with her friends, researching family history, and attending church.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Monument and Boulevard in Richmond.
She cared for her mother, Lucy Dollman Craft, who resided with her for many years prior to her death.
Goldie Stephens passed away Tuesday evening, April 18, 1995 in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Stephens, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, two grandaughters, and two brothers, Hugh Wesley and Dennis Kirkwood Craft of Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22 at 12:30 pm at Bennett Funeral Home West Chapel in Richmond with interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
