Otto W. Kautz, 98, a longtime rural Douglas farmer, died Tuesday evening at his home in Kalmar Township just south of Douglas of a heart ailment.
He was born Dec.10 1882 in Pomeren, Germany, and immigrataed to the United States in 1891. He lived in Kasson, Claremont, Pine Island and Dodge Center, before moving to his Douglas home in 1948. He married Mabel Stark Sept. 29 1909, in Dodge Center, She died in 1959.
Survivors include four sons. Murray of Millville, Gaylord of Oronoco, Francis of Redding, Calif. and Daryl at home in Douglas; one daughter, Mrs. Arnold(Doris)Andrist of Pine Island; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Arthur of Hammond; and two sister, Mrs. Minnie Nelson of Hallock, and Mrs. Emma Kimball of Galesburg Ill.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, three sister, and four brothers.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island with the Rev. William R. Straka officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Mahler Funeral Home in Pine Island and at the church one hour before services Monday.
