William C. Bahr was born 16 Jul, 1890, in Keya Paha County, Nebr., the son of Peter C Bahr and Ernestine nee Kussman. His childhood and early manhood were spent in this vicinity until he entered the United States Army, serving during World War I. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army he returned to Keya Paha county near Springview, Neb. to resume his occupation of ranching and farming. On 01 Mar 1935, he was united in marriage with Frances M Shufeldt at Neligh, Nebr. To this union were born two daughters Velda (Mrs. Alan Davis) of Fremont, Nebr., and Zola (Mrs. Dale Fiscus) also of Fremont.
The family moved to DeWitt in December, 1942 where he was an employee of the Peterson Manufacturing Co. until his retirement in 1957.
He entered the Lutheran hospital in Beatrice on Saturday, 26 Sep, while hospitalized there he received Christian baptism from the hospital chaplain. He entered the Veterans' hospital in Lincoln on 05 Oct., and death came on Friday, 09 Oct., 1964 at the age of 74 years two months and 23 days.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, his daughters, Velda and Zola; five sisters, Miss Alta Bahr and Mrs. Nellie Simons of Long Pine, Nebr., Mrs Emma Dubel of Burton, Nebr., Mrs. Doris Gipson of Longmont, Colo., and Mrs. Lillie Estes of Palisade, Colo., one brother, Ora Bahr of Lawndale, Calif.; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers, Albert, Peter, Ernest, and Fred, and his sisters, Mrs. Edith Muth, Mrs. Anna Shultz, and Miss Jennie Bahr.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 13 Oct., at the Venrick-Griffiths-Fox funeral home in DeWitt, with the Rev. Douglas Allen officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Paul Seeman, Gerald Rehm, Robert Cullen, George Norton, William Kiburz and Wilbert Kath.
The Hawes-Wood American Legion Post 212 of DeWitt provided the color guard and military salute at the committal. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery.
