Again we are reminded of how uncertain life is when the swift messenger of Death visited the peaceful home of Mr and Mrs Peter Bahr, taking away Ernest Leonard who was born August 14, 1886 and died May 31, 1907, aged 20 years 9 months and 16 days. He was suddenly taken ill May 4th, at the home of Peter Bahr, Jr. near Carlock S. D. On the following Sunday he was brought home and doctors White and Evans were at once summoned. They pronounced the disease Cerebral Spinal Meningitis caused probably from La Grippe and a fall on the ice last winter. He leaves a father, mother, four brothers and eight sisters, two of who are in Colorado, Mrs Edith Muth and Mrs Lillie Estis.
Ernest was a boy who was generally beloved. While not a member of any church, sine the church of his choice was not represented here, yet from parents who believe in heart religion that makes the life holy in God's sight, Ernest received that religious training which his father and mother, as members of the German Evangelical church, vowed to give him while he was baptized in infancy. Funeral services took place at the house where a large company assembled and forty-two teams, drawing loads of friends followed his remains to the Roger's Cemetrey where his body was laid to rest, awaiting the general resurrection of the dead.
May the angel of Hope and Love occupy that lonely spot which Ernest once filled and inspire in the hearts of loved ones the assurance that there's a land that is fairer than day where all sorrow is taken away.
