George Edelen, of near Peakesville, passed away at the Saint Joseph hospital, Keokuk, Thursday, June 18, 1914 after several months' illness at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 17 days. The immediate cause of his death was heart failure. The funeral services were held at the Revere Methodist church, Saturday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev Campbell, the pastor. The remains were laid to rest under the beautiful burial services of the I.O.O.F., the interment being in the Revere cemetery. The pallbearers were J C Walker, Jas. Kelly, Daniel Ehrhart, E F Parker, M Gardner and J Daniels. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends were present to pay their last sad tribute to the departed, attesting their repect and esteem. George Edelen was a son of William and Margaret (Dunn) Edlen, both natives of Kentucky, who were early settlers of this county where the subject of sketch was born on a farm near Kahoka, May 1, 1864. He was married to Nancy Scott August 12, 1890. To this union were born seven children, four of whom died in infancy. The following with their mother survive: Frankie, Glenn and Dale. Also surviving are four brothers and three sisters: William and Thomas of Revere; Lewis, of Kahoka; Martin, of Ashton; Mrs Mary Adams, of Mabank, Texas; Mrs Nettie Owen, Nora Sherwood, of Kahoka, besides many other relatives and friends. Mr Edelen had lived his entire life in Clark county and was a member of Sweet Home Lodge No 451, I.O.O.F.
