Newton Lewis Edlen, son of William H and Margaret Dunn Edlen former residents of Kentucky, was born about six miles north of Kahoka, Clark County, Missouri, March 8, 1860, departed this life August 10, 1934 at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 2 days. He was married to Lulu Ellen Daughters September 15, 1886. To this union nine children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. The devoted wife and seven children survive namely Mrs Emma Overhulser, Kahoka; Clyde Edlen, Ara Edlen, Mora Edlen, Harve Edlen, Bill Eden of Revere; and Mrs Stella Fishback, Kahoka. There are fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. There are two brothers, Thomas Edlen and Martin Edlen of Kahoka; and two sisters, Mrs Nettie Owens, Herman, Ill; and Mrs Nora Sherwood, Kahoka and a host of other relatives and a large circle of friends. He was converted to Christ in the Oak Grove Methodist church, baptized by Rev Francis, 40 years ago. He transferred his membership to the Christian church in Kahoka, where he continued his membership. He has always lived in Clark county. The funeral largely attended was held at the Kahoka Christian church Sunday afternoon, August 12, conducted by Rev J W Pearson. Interment was made in the Kahoka cemetery.
