Benjamin Thomas Pettit, 71, of 4502 Columbia, for 36 years a resident of Dallas, died Thursday at a local hospital following a two-week illness. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. J. E. Hickman, Austin; one sister, Mrs. J. J. Patterson, San Antonio; two brothers, A. K. Pettit, Calexico, California, and Robert S. Pettit, Wills Point.

Mr. Pettit was born in Florence, Alabama September 2, 1865, being brought to Wills Point by his family the following year. Later the family moved to Waxahachie. He was married to Miss Maria Zollner of Rockwall, June 11, 1893.

Mr. Pettit, a member of the Rotary Club and of the official board of stewards, First Methodist Church; was Southwestern representative of the Estey Pipe Organ Company.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the First Methodist Church, Dr. W. F. Martin and Dr. C. Q. Smith officiating. Burial wil be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
