Was a veteran of World War II
LITTLE FALLS - Charles H. Leon Jr., 78, of Valley View Courts, Apartment C-2, Little Falls, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Little Falls Hospital, after being stricken at home.
He was born July 15, 1926, in Utica, the son of the late Charles and Edna (Johnson) Leon Sr. He was educated in Little Falls schools. He was united in marriage to the former Eleanor R. Pettengill on March 24, 1951, at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls, with the Rev. Frederick Thorne officiating. Mr. Leon was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Merchant Marines of Sheepshead Bay, L.I.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. He was also a very active volunteer fireman, having served for many years with the Salisbury and Ilion volunteer fire departments. He was also the past president of the Herkimer County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
Mr. Leon was employed at two different times by the former Producers Co-op, Dolgeville, and later as a barn inspector of the Northeast Dairy Association. He also served as an inspector for the Glen Mohawk Dairy, Fultonville. He was last employed by the former Daniel Green Co., Dolgeville, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife,three sons,a daughter,five grandchildren,five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Leon, who died Dec. 21, 2003, and Harold Leon, and a sister, Edna Mae Barney.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 21, at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church, 555 Albany St., Little Falls, with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Stratford Cemetery, town of Stratford, at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls.
There are no calling hours.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Leon be considered to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women, 92 W. Miller St., Orlando, Fla. 32806-2036. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
