Services for Dennis William Leon Sr., 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at noon at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Leon died Dec. 12, 2014. He was born May 28, 1935, in Little Falls, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour in Vietnam and retired as a first sergeant at Fort Hood in 1978. After his military career, he went to work for the Texas prison system. He worked 10 years at the Hill Top facility in Gatesville as the dining facility supervisor and retired after 17 years.

During his military service in Germany, he married Gerda Marie Fleischmann and they had been married 54 years.

He will be remembered for his support and generosity for his family and his love for his wife, Gerda, who he supported every day at the nursing home where she resides.

Mr. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Leon; six brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gerda; daughters, Maria and son-in-law, Mike Thomas and Barbara Leon; sons, Dennis Leon Jr. and daughter-in-law, Denise and Mike Leon; two brothers; two sisters; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
