1925 - 2002
St. Johnsville- Mrs. Edna L ( Leon) Barney, 77, of 7 W. Main St. St. Johnsville and a life long Johnsville resident, passed away peacefully Sunday morning May 5,2002, at Little Falls Hospital. Mrs. Barney was born April 7,1925 in Little Falls a daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Johnson) Leon and attended Little Falls schools. She Married Lawrence Barney. Mr. Barney passed away Nov 9,1999. She was last employed with the former Little Falls Footware. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Johnsville and a member of the church Rosary Society.
Among the many pastimes Edna took part in she thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded in the camaraderie of her friends in the American Legion in St. Johnsville, where she played Bingo. She also enjoyed cross stitching and crossword puzzles. She leaves two sons, Alan Leon Sr. and his wife Mary of Little Falls and Barry and wife Harriet of Ft. Plain; a daughter, Lois Hill and husband Melvin of Frankfort; nine brothers, Charles Leon and his wife Eleanor of Mohawk, Harold and wife June of Ilion, Leo Leon of Little Falls, Dayton Leon and wife Florence of Little Falls, Gordon Leon and wife Frances of Herkimer, Richard Leon and wife Joan of Little Falls, Dennis Leon and wife Gerta of Copperas Cove , Texas, Thomas Leon and wife Sarah of Lawton, Okla. and Terry Leon and wife Shea of Kentucky; two sisters, Patrica Tennant and husband Vaughn and Shirley Ashley and husband Fred of Little Falls; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barney's funeral service will commence at 11 a. m. on Wednesday morning, May 8, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls with Sister Dolores Stevens, CSJ of St Patrick's Church officiating. Committal service will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer
Friends and relatives are invited to pay respects at the funeral home on Tuesday evening ( tonight) from 5-8 p.m. and to attend the service Wednesday morning.
