LITTLE FALLS- Leo Richard Leon, 80 of East John St. went home to be with the Lord on September 11,2009 after a brief illness at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. Leo was born in Salisbury on January 18 ,1929, the son of the late Charles and Edna (Johnson) Leon. A lifelong resident of Little Falls, Leo was educated in Little Falls and recently received his GED from the Little Falls Central School District, a feat he was very proud of. He joined the Army in 1947 proudly serving his country during the Korean War. Leo was honorably discharged in 1952. Leo will always be remembered by his many family members and friends. He enjoyed being with family during outings and his many friends throughout Little Falls especially his friends from the Rockton Plaza residence. Leo will also be remembered for the time he spent in Remsen with his aunt and uncle until the time of their passing. Leo was a member of the American Legion Post #31 Little Falls at one time serving as Commander. He was also a member of the Polish Community Club of W. Main St, Little Falls. He will be sadly missed by the members of those two clubs and his enthusiasm and desire during shuffleboard games. Leo is survived by his four brothers: Dayton and his wife Florence of Little Falls, Gordon and his wife Frances of Georgia; Dennis and his wife Gerta of Texas and Thomas and his wife Sara of Oklahoma; his two sisters Shirley Ashley and her husband Fredrick of Little Falls and Patricia Tennat and her husband Vaughn of Massachusetts; his sister in laws Eleanor Leon, Shay Leon and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leo is predeceased by his special friend and partner Gloria Gee of whom he was very fond of, his 4 brothers Charles (Whitey) , Harold, Richard and Terry and his sister Edna May Barney. Leo will be laid to rest at 11AM on Friday September 25, 2009 at Church St. Cemetery, Little Falls . Military honors will be presented by the Fort Plain VFW and the U.S. Army. The family is being cared for by the Enea Family Funeral Home, Little Falls, NY.
