Gordon E. Leon 81 of Englewood, Florida passed away on January 19, 2014 at Venice Regional Hospital in Venice, Florida.

He was born on August 21, 1932 in Salisbury Center New York to Charles Leon and Edna Johnson Leon.

Gordon was employed by Doeskin Paper Mill as a supervisor in Utica, New York until he was transferred to Hinsdale, NH where he resided for 20 years. While living in NH he was very active in the community running for office and supporting community service events. Upon his return to New York, he was employed as a shipping employee at the Folt's Nursing Home where he retired in 1997. Before moving to Florida, Gordon lived in Hinesville, GA.

Gordon was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War from 1950-1953. He is a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Frances of 57 years of Englewood, Florida, his 2 daughters, Monica Zinn and fiancé Gary Russell of Englewood, Florida and Darlene(Samuel) Hammond of Port Charlotte, Florida; 3 grandchildren, Nathan(Melanie) Zinn, Samuel (Barbara) Hammond IV and Brent Hammond; also 4 great-grandchildren, Samuel Hammond V, Kylie Hammond, Kristine Zinn and Reese Zinn; his 3 brothers, Dayton(Florence),Tom(Sarah) and Denny(Gerta) and his 2 sisters, Shirley(Fred) Ashley and Patricia(Vaughn) Tennant.

Gordon was predeceased by his 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Gordon will be sadly missed by his 3 canine grandsons, Buddy, Lucky and Buzz.

Gordon's life was complete just spending time with his family. Gordon's contagious personality and hearty laugh will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him. Gordon never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone he could. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers. We love you and until we meet again.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery 9910 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida with Military Honors .
