Mr. Norman Douglas Burkhardt, age 84, of Madison, formerly of Milton, Kentucky, entered this life on November 8, 1926 in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late James & Goldie Brown Burkhardt. He was raised and resided most all of his life in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was inducted into the United States Army on January 3, 1946 during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 8, 1947. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, guns, arrowheads and caring for animals. He was a member of the Mt. Byrd Christian Church. Norman died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:05 p.m. at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Norman will be missed by his two daughters: Lana Simpson & Abby Burkhardt both of Madison, Indiana his son: Nigel Burkhardt & his wife, Lisa of Columbia, South Carolina; his sisters: Delma Richmond of Madison, Indiana, Myrtle Purvis of Milton, Kentucky; his brothers: Larry Burkhardt of Milton, Kentucky, Billy Burkhardt of Carrollton, Kentucky, David Burkhardt of Canaan, Indiana; his granddaughters: Autumn Kersey & her husband, Daniel and Amber Simpson; his grandson: Nathaniel Burkhardt; his great grandsons: Storm Simpson, Dakota & Hunter Simpson-Robinson & Hudson Kersey; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Goldie Brown Burkhardt; his sister, Evelyn Mahoney; his brothers, Forrest Burkhardt & Phillip Burkhardt and two infant siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., by Bro. Aaron Snelling at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana . Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana 47250.
Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
Full military honors will be conducted at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion.
