Mr. David Lee Burkhardt
Mr. David Lee Burkhardt, age 79, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on November 22, 1937 in Trimble County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late James Frederick and Goldie Brown Burkhardt. He was raised in Trimble County and attended school there. On December 16, 1955 he was inducted into the United States Army in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose to the rate of Specialist 4 serving in the 404th Anti Aircraft Battalion. He was honorably discharged on November 28, 1958 from Fort Knox and remained in the Reserves until being discharged on December 15, 1961. On February 10, 1960 David was united in marriage to Wanda Jean Center in Trimble County. This happy union of 57 years was blessed with two sons, Jeff and Rodney. David worked as a welder with Rexnord in Madison for 17 years and then for the Jefferson Proving Grounds until it closed. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources - Crosley Fish and Wildlife Area in maintenance. David had resided the last 46 years near Canaan on his farm on Geyman Road. He was a member of the Long Run Baptist Church near Moorefield, Indiana. He enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to Country music, farming and being with his family. David died on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 4:00 a.m. at his home near Madison, Indiana.

David will be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Wanda Jean Center Burkhardt of Madison, Indiana; his loving sons, Jeff Burkhardt of Madison, Indiana, Rodney Burkhardt and his wife, Amanda of Lanesville, Indiana; his loving grandchildren, David Burkhardt, Lisa Burkhardt and Allie Crosby; his adoring great granddaughter, Snowy Burkhardt; his brothers, William Burkhardt and his wife, Mabel of Carrollton, Kentucky, Larry Burkhardt and his wife, Barbara of Milton, Kentucky; his sister, Delma Richmond of Madison, Indiana; his sisters in law, Betty Wright and her husband, Phil of Madison, Indiana, Jewell Holland and her husband, Charles of Russellville, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, James Frederick Burkhardt, died November 13, 1992, his mother, Goldie Brown Burkhardt, died April 19, 1995, his sisters, Evelyn June Mahoney, died 2009; Neola Doris Burkhardt, died 1941; Myrtle Purvis died June 2, 2017, his brothers, Norman Douglas Burkhardt, died January 25, 2011; Phillip Darrell Burkhardt died 2003; Forrest Gayle Burkhardt, died 2007; and James Dale Burkhardt, died 1931.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., by Cecil Rowlett at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.

Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
MILITARY HONORS and INTERMENT SERVICE
A final salute will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana with full military honors to follow by the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison with Cecil Rowlett officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jean Center Burkhardt of Madison; his sons, Jeff Burkhardt of Madison, and Rodney (Amanda) Burkhardt of Lanesville, Ind.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. His parents, James Frederick and Goldie Brown Burkhardt preceded him in death.
