The daughter of James Abner and Anna (Bateman) Dunn, Aunt Lizzie left Mercer County, IL with her parents and older brother and settled in Decatur County, IA, where they remained for some ten years. Leaving there they migrated west to Clay County, Ks, settling on a farm near Clifton where they remained several years.

On June 29, 1886 at Clifton Aunt Lizzie was married to Hugh Carmichael, a native of Canada. By 1896 they were living on a farm near Butler in Custer County, OK. Their family consisted of five children: Artie, Earl, Stella, Velma and Hugh. Velma passed away in 1923 at 20 years of age.
